Dr Andy Tobias UK CAA AME 10251  UK GMC 2638401

About me.

I am a fully qualified and registered doctor, living within the Shoreham ATZ. Retired from NHS General Practice, I am approved by the UK CAA as an AME for Professional and Private Pilots, ATCOs and Flight Engineers.

Since becoming an AME (Aviation Medical Examiner) in 1999 I have performed more than 5,000 medicals on behalf of the UK CAA.

As well as perfoming aviation medical examinations at Shoreham Airport, I visit Wycombe Air Park in Buckinghamshire (EGTB) 2 days a week to carry out aviation medical examinations there and I also do some work at the CAA Medical Department at Gatwick.

I can also carry out other types of medicals such as PSV/HGV medicals, Motor Sport medicals, etc. etc. Unfortunately the UK National Recreational Pilots Licence medical form has to be signed by one's own NHS GP, not by an AME.

I qualified in 1980 from the Medical School of  Nottingham University. I gained my PPL (Aeroplane) in 1992 at Shoreham Airport and my PPL (Helicopter) in March 2006. I still fly regularly and have nearly 850 hours flight time. If you are interested in the aircraft that I have flown you are welcome to look at the "my flying"  page.

My post graduate training has been in General Practice and I passed the membership examination of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1984. I worked full time in General Practice until April 2003, when I retired from the NHS in order to concentrate on my aviation medicine work. I have maintained my eligibility to work within the NHS as a GP and, until recently, have still acted as a very occasional NHS GP locum.

This link will confirm my registration   with the UK General Medical Council. You will need my GMC registration 2638401.
